    Chief Petty Officer Michael Spencer of Sector Columbia River was presented the Coast Guard Medal Nov. 21 for his extraordinary actions during a triple rescue last February.

    Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, a legend in computer programming, was posthumously awarded the Presidential of Freedom by President Obama at a White House ceremony Nov. 22.  Among other things, she coined the word "bug."

    Your Web Editor traveled to McMurdo Station aboard Polar Sea in 2006-07.  He can tell you that everything shakes and clunks, you can't get much sleep with 24-hour daylight, and that it was the experience of a lifetime!
