The ship returned to its homeport at Naval Station Everett Thursday, following its first DEPLOYMENT.

The Seattle-based icebreaker crossed 72 Degrees North on Christmas Day.  The photos illustrate that even at 10:30 AM local time, it's really dark up there in the WINTER

Replacement of the 106-ton starboard propulsion motor was finished Nov. 27 at Mare Island Drydock Co. in Vallejo, CA.   The motor sustained an electrical fire Aug. 18, while the ship was about 60 miles off Seward, Alaska.

The mission will be to escort Coast Guard Fast Response Cutters to the Persian Gulf.  The Commandant revealed the plan during a Navy League WEBINAR.

This story centers on Coast Guard Seaman Katlin Kilroy, who bought dinner for a stranger in Greenland, and ended up accomplishing a diplomatic mission.
